A Breakthrough in Heat-to-Power
Transforming Waste Heat
AIRCOLES
An ambitious European initiative
Initiative
AIRCOLES is a European initiative that transforms low-grade renewable heat into on-demand energy services. It delivers clean power, cooling, and heating from sources such as solar thermal, geothermal, urban heat, and data-centre waste heat by combining the Isobaric Expansion Heat-Driven Compressor (IEHDC) and the Compressed-Air Linear Electric Generator (CALEG).
Innovation
AIRCOLES combines IEHDC and CALEG in a compact trigeneration system that uses only air as the working fluid. This enables efficient near-isothermal compression and single-stage expansion at low temperatures, where conventional technologies such as ORC, Stirling, and thermoelectric systems are less effective. AIRCOLES offers a practical combined cooling, heating, and power solution ready for scale-up with integrated thermal and compressed-air storage, smart controls, and modular designs for buildings and data centers.
TECHNOLOGY CONSORTIUM
AIRCOLES brings together three complementary European innovators with a shared goal: unlocking the potential of low-grade renewable heat. The consortium was formed through early technical exchanges, market analysis, and joint feasibility studies, which confirmed a strong synergy for developing and validating a high-efficiency, air-based trigeneration system for real-market applications. Encon tech B.V. contributes its Isobaric Expansion heat-driven compressor technology, YAFA Technologies Ltd its Compressed-Air Linear Electric Generator, and MG Sustainable Engineering AB its expertise in system integration, simulation, prototyping, sustainability assessment, and commercialization
